Valentines
Okay, this is just a total brain dump of a bunch of things I've jotted down on text files and in emails over the past few weeks or so. Usually, I try to stitch everything together into a coherent story, but I give up! I don't know if there's a common thread that runs between this jumble of odds and ends, so I'm just going to bulletize it. And somewhere in there, you'll find what this post is actually supposed to be about - Valentine's Day. It's the soup that is my mind, so without further ado:
- I think Etsy is so neat, especially considering how eBay has restructured itself toward commercialized sales. If you're looking for a unique gift, try giving them a looksee. Makes me wonder how the strike next week will pan out. I left eBay as an active participant awhile back...all their fees just killed the garage sale appeal. They seem to be geared toward the liquidators and resellers now - people selling new stuff. Honestly, though if I wanted to buy new stuff, I wouldn't be looking for it at eBay.
- While you're at gifting, check out Uncommon Goods and Knock Knock. These aren't particularly geared towards the handmade, but they're definitely unusual.
- Have you seen the "computer in his mind" show called Chuck? I think it's pure crap. It's a total ripoff from Jake 2.0, and I'm not the only one who thinks so: Jake 2.0 — It was like Chuck, but good. And Christopher Gorham is so fine, Ugly Betty doesn't use him enough. —joan catskills"
- This author writes some hilarious children's book titles...
- HD-DVD has been declared dead. Too bad we were early adopters. Since we don't have any PS2 games, we recently bought the low-end PS3 player (which won't play old games but will play new ones and Blu-Ray movies, too). It's nice enough, especially given the movie selection and the quiet fan, but I hate that we got burned.
- The husband and I had a wonderful Valentine's Day! We gifted ourselves blackberries. :) He got the 8830 World Phone and I got a Pearl. Loves it. Loves it. Even though, the day after we bought them, the network went down! I also bought him a STAR and he both bought me flowers (tulips and irises) AND took me the Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Pricey, but awesome. As soon as they figured out we were noobs (which didn't take long), they stopped trying to make us feel stupid and started trying to make us feel at ease. If you've got a paycheck to blow on dinner, I'd totally recommend it.
- Who would have known that there was giant furniture in North Carolina. I don't mean just big furniture, I mean REALLY big furniture. Took an out-of-towner to find it...
- Did you know you could overlay weather radar on top of Google Maps? It's a hidden feature under "My Maps" but pretty neat. I can't wait until they've got that down as a standard feature for in-car GPS. And made GPS more resistant to loss of signal due to poor weather!
